The Red Feather Society
Donors who gift to United Way of Lebanon County’s endowment fund through planned and estate giving are recognized as the members of this newly-established philanthropic group. Such gifts foundationally ensure that thousands of lives in Lebanon County are touched for the better, creating a legacy of generosity which is tangible in our community in perpetuity. Gifts to United Way through the Red Feather Society will stay in Lebanon County, putting the generous gifts of donors to work here in our community.
Origins of the Red Feather Society
In the early 1930s, many Community Chests, the forerunners of United Way, adopted the red feather as a symbol of service to the community. For many years, the annual campaign here in Lebanon County was referred to as the “red feather campaign.” Donors were given small red feather lapel pins to show they had contributed to making our community a better place to live and work. In honor of our past leaders, United Way of Lebanon County has created the Red Feather Society.
